Engagement Playbooks
A playbook generates a structured set of tasks and engagement methods tailored to your project type and IAP2 participation level. Rather than building a task list from scratch, applying a playbook gives your project a proven starting framework that your team can then customise.
What does a Playbook include?
When applied, a playbook generates:
- Tasks across the engagement lifecycle — planning, delivery, and reporting
- Engagement methods appropriate to the selected IAP2 level (Inform, Consult, Involve, Collaborate, Empower)
- A suggested timeline based on your project type
Applying a Playbook
From your project’s Project Home, click Apply Playbook in the Getting Started section. This opens the two-step playbook wizard.
Step 1 — Configure your playbook settings:
Select a Playbook from the dropdown. Once selected, additional options appear — including Project Type, which helps CE Canvas suggest engagement methods appropriate to your context.
Click Continue to review to proceed to Step 2, where you can review and confirm the tasks and methods before applying them to your project.
Available Playbooks
The standard playbook available in CE Canvas is Engagement Essentials — a general-purpose framework suitable for most community engagement projects.
Custom playbooks — organisations with specific workflows, sector requirements, or compliance frameworks can have custom playbooks built for their account. Contact CE Canvas to discuss custom playbook development.
After Applying a Playbook
Once applied, the generated tasks appear in your project’s Task Board and the engagement methods are added to your Engagement Canvas. Your team can then:
- Assign tasks to team members
- Adjust task phases, priorities, and due dates
- Modify or remove engagement methods that don’t apply
- Add additional tasks specific to your project
Applying a playbook doesn’t lock anything in — everything it generates can be edited or deleted.
Next steps
- Invite team members and assign tasks to get your team working
